This was one of those days when one has a great deal of sympathy, not only for the shooters, but also for the Match and Programme Committees who try to sort something out of the mess. I know – I’ve been there!

Tuesday, 22 Aug 2017

Apparently, no amount of finger crossing was going to prevent the rains today.  The morning started with the first detail of the Letson at 500y being halted about 2/3 of the way through due to direction from Range Control when lightning was spotted in the area.  The first detail of the Letson at 300m didn’t even get started as the inclement weather approached from the West.  After a lengthy delay, the Match Committee decided to cancel the 300m and 500y matches in the Letson and modify the rest of the day’s schedule.  Shooting was scheduled to begin again at 1200hrs with competitors starting with either a modified Letson 600y (15 shots for score vice the normal 7) and the traditional Alexander of Tunis.

Best laid plans and all, the first detail of these matches were completed with no rain; however the second detail was another story.  As the second detail was in preparation time, the skies opened once again and the remainder of the day’s schedule was subsequently cancelled.

As a result, the Match Committee met once again to determine the way ahead for the remainder of the week with particular emphasis on determining a modified course of fire for the Governor General qualifier.  Unofficially (since I have not actually seen anything posted), tomorrow’s schedule will be changed by moving the Gibson 800m match to 900m.  Then, the President’s match scheduled for tomorrow (2ss & 10 to count at 300m, 500y, 600y) and the Gibson match (2ss &10 to count at 900m tomorrow; 2ss & 10 to count at 300m, 600y on Thursday morning) will now compose the Governor General’s qualifier.

Fortunately, the weather forecast for the remainder of the Championship looks clear.
