Mon 18 Aug 2014

This was a very fine day for shooting – sunny, cool but not too cool, with a light but fickle and variable wind. At the afternoon’s long range shoot, the chat focussed on swift changes between 5 left and 3 right.

Two matches, the Dick Hampton Monday Aggregate and another 200 points towards the Grand made up the day.

The Norman Beckett was fired at 300m and 800m, morning and afternoon. Jane Messer, GBRT Vice-Captain, won the match with 100.17 from Kent Reeve, USA, at 100.15. There were 10 scores of 100/100.

The John Brick, also fired morning and afternoon at 500y and 600y, was won by Jon Underwood, GBRT, with 100.16, just ahead of Don Pitcairn on 100.15. There were 11 100s in all.

Jane and Jon tied for the Dick Hampton Aggregate and will need to shoot off to determine the winner. They also lead the Grand with a clean 300.45 and 299.44 respectively.

Tonight we slummed it and made do with some fois gras de canard, followed a grilled veal chop with a portini mushroom, white wine, heavy cream sauce, accompanied by a Mission Hill Chardonnay and Kim Crawford Pinot Noir. All thanks to culinary skills of Stan Frost! Unfortunately, your faithful scribe’s devotion to duty, and his insistence of writing this report, pre-empted the Stilton and Port! Another day …..

Tomorrow will see the Letson, the traditional 7 shots at 300, 500 and 600, plus that maker 0r breaker of aggregates, the Alexander of Tunis. The forecast is good.
