Fri 21 Aug 2009
I’m writing the first
part of this report in the afternoon (about 2:15 pm), having taken refuge from
a heavy downpour. According to the Weather Office, a severe thunderstorm watch
is in effect for the Ottawa area. The radar shows a band for rain just passing
through the area, with a gap of some 120 km before the next one. We may
therefore be lucky and complete the afternoon’s team matches, although
isolated showers may pop up anywhere.
The morning was quite
threatening, but the rain held off for the firing of the Gatineau.
With
the Gatineau, a large number of aggregates are also completed. These are listed
in the box below.
Most
important of all, the Macdonald Stewart Grand Aggregate is now finished.
The
winner for 2009 is Kelly Bachand from Kent,
Washington, USA. He scored an excellent 74.7 to pull ahead of the field and win
by two points with 824.80. Des Vamplew, Scarborough,
Ontario, had 75.7 thereby raising himself into 2nd
place with 822.103. Top Canadian Under 25 was Shannon
Carlton, Sutton West, Ontario, scoring 820.94.
Kelly
and Shannon will be the guests of honour at the Macdonald Stewart Dinner to be
held this evening at the Chateau Laurier Hotel.

819.94; Bruce Bullock 816.89.
Following a re-shoot of
half-a-dozen people for the Letson 500, due to a
target error, the list of TR qualifiers for the Governor General’s Final
was revised. As a result, a tie-shoot had to be held for the 50th
place, with Vicki Hall edging out Tom Maynard.
Looking out of my motel room,
the rain has stopped (4:55 pm) and it’s nice and sunny!
I will finish this off later
evening, when the team match scores are complete.
At 23:56, just back from the
Macdonald Dinner.
As usual this was a delightful
occasion, away from Connaught, in the civilised surroundings of the Chateau
Laurier. Unfortunately, Mrs. Stewart was not able to attend, but several of us
spoke with her on the phone. She sounded too be in good heart and most
interested to hear of what had been going on.
Team match scores do not yet
seem to have been posted, so I’ll find them and report in the morning.
The forecast for tomorrow is
for more unsettled weather, chance of thunder-showers. Perhaps we will again be
lucky – let’s hope so. The Canada and other short range team
matches, as well as the Perry individual, will be fired in the morning,
followed by the F Class and TR Governor General’s Finals and Bisley
Qualifiers.
