Tue 18 Aug 2009
Well, here we are, much later than hoped or intended, feeling replete and benign – good dinner at Lapointe’s Seafood Restaurant, and then a few little sips of the 21-year Balvenie. Not much of that is now left, and Sandy Peden needs to hurry over here if he wants his small share.
The weather was much better than it might have been. It was mostly fairly cloudy, yet still warm and humid. Showers were forecast, and the sky threatened these from time to time. However, apart from an occasional few drops, nothing really happened until around 5 pm. Then there was a good deluge for some minutes which delayed shooting. However, without undue delay, all matches were completed without being terribly late. The double rainbow after the storm was really quite impressive, but we could not locate the crock of gold.
I must also report that my tent, which was flattened yesterday, remarkably arose spontaneously, without apparent divine intervention. All is more in order now, although it may yet again collapse.
There were two matches today, the Letson and the Alexander of Tunis. The latter, fired in the afternoon in a fresh breeze, has caused some changes in aggregate standings.
The Letson (7 at 300m, 500 and 600y). TR: An All-American finish for the top three; Stacey Tamulinas, MN, 105.17; Andre de la Torre, FL, 105.16; Wayne Forshee, GA, 105.15. There were 19 scores of 105 in all. Stacey will receice a DCRA Life Membership from the Letson Trust Fund. F(O): Barry Price, ON, 105.12 – an excellent shoot on the very tight F Class target; Bruce Condie, ON, 104.11; Glen Taylor, AB, 103.13. F(F): Matt Wolf, NB, 100.8; Jim Thompson, ON, 100.7; Colin Brown, ON, 100.5.
The Earl Alexander of Tunis (10 at 900m). TR: tie between Des Vamplew, ON, John Frigugletti, NC, and Ken Westling, BC, on 50.6. F(O): Marius de Champlain, QC, 47.5; Glen Taylor 47.2; Leo D’Amour, QC, 47.2. F(F): Earl Spicer, NS, 43.1; Paul; Reibin, BC, 43.0; Matt Wolf 42.2.
The Jack Gorrie Tuesday Aggregate. TR: tie between Des Vamplew and Wayne Forsse, 155.20; Geoff Woodman, NF, 155.17. F(O): Glen Taylor 150.15; Leo D’Amour 150.14; Wolfgang Scholze, BDMP Germany, 149.12. F(F): Matt Wolf 142.10; Armen Papazyan, NS, 140.12; Dale Rathwell, QC, 140.9.
The Klondike “Half Way” Aggregate – also the standings in the Grand Aggregate to Tuesday evening. TR: Mike Wong Shui, ON, 452.46; John Frigugletti 452.40; Wayne Froshee 451.46; Kelly Bachand, WA, 451.34; Shannon Carlton ,ON, 450.55. F(O): Wolfgang Scholze 441.32; Leo D’Amour 441.31; Gord Ogg, ON, 440.36. F(F): Matt Wolf 431.38; Dale Rathwell 422.30; Jim Thompson 417.27. With 455 points now gone in the Grand, 375 remain.
The Coaches Match (two shooters and a coach (10 at 900m). There was a good entry of some 24 teams – not all the Coaches, the really important people, have been named to me. The top two teams were made up of the four shooters vying for final selection for the Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships and Commonwealth Games in India in 2010. TR Pairs: Paul Tremblay and Bruce Bullock, 99.1, counted out James Paton and Des Vamplew. The US Team of Andre de la Torre and John Frigugletti was third with 99.7.
That’s about it for today. Tomorrow is forecast to be fine and sunny, but cooler and less humid than of late. We will fire the President’s Match and the 800m range of the Gibson.
Colin’s
Glenmorangie is not tasting
too bad either. The score in the “cofffeee”
match is currently 7-3 in my favour.
And
so to bed ...........
