Wed 30 Aug 2006
The DCRA's F Class Open Tournament ended today. It was again a splendid day for shooting - sunny and cool, not humid, with a brisk headwind that changed direction quickly between left and right.
In the morning, Matches 7 and 8 at 900 metres were fired, making up the Day 3 Individual Aggregate. Scores were somewhat lower than in the previous two days due to the more difficult conditions. Larry Bartholome was the top Open shooter with 141.13; Claude Duclos won the F(F) 142.9; and Toby Raincock the TR 144.10. All F(F) and TR scores have been 'converted' as described in a previous note. I particularly liked Emil Praslick's comment after one of his morning shoots "The ship has sunk, and there are no survivors!"
After lunch, we fired the third team match. The coaches had to work had in the tricky wind, and scores were again quite a bit lower. Top Open Team was England Red with 272.06; top TR Team, GB #4 281.09. Full details will be on the DCRA web site.
This team match concluded the three day Team Grand Aggregate. Results:
Open: 1. USA Red 852.75; 2. England Red 829.33; 3. USA White 820.47; 11 teams competing.
F(F): only one team, Farkey's Friends, 829.55.
TR: 1. GB #4 876.75; 2. GB #3 875.85; 3. FB #5 874.68; 5 teams competing.
Following the team match, there was the Individual Grand Final for 40 shooters, selected from the overall aggregate, with numbers in proportion to the entry in each class. That meant 22 Open, 4 F(F) and 14 TR. After the Final, the Individual Grand Aggregate results were declared:
Open: 1. Larry Bartholome 663.47/700.140; 2. Jim Murphy 653.36; 3. John Kajfes 646.35.
F(F): 1. Dale Rathwell 678.58; 2. Paul Reibin 670.36; 3. Claude Duclos 661.34.
TR: 1. David Luckman 688.72; 2. Toby Raincock 683.47; 3. Gaz Morris 683.45.
The Presentations were made by DCRA Life Governor Colin Brown and Executive Vice President Stan Frost. The new medals seemed to be very well received, as were the two trophies presented by Paul Reibin and the gift certificates from Sinclair International. After which we repaired to the bar for much needed refreshment.
All in all, this was a successful event, conducted in a warm and friendly, yet competitive, spirit. The weather could hardly have been better; the Range and Butts Staff provided excellent service; and the long suffering DCRA Office Staff coped very well with the complexities of the programme and with my apparently insatiable desire to make things even more complicated at the last minute! I must also thank Dan Chisholm who, although not present for the shoot, was in almost constant contact from New Brunswick, sorting out big and little bugs in the computer scoring.
It has been suggested that we do something like this again in 2008. The thoughts and comments of our readers on this would be welcome. In particular, if we did do it, would YOU come?!
Next year, shooters from around the world will gather at Connaught for the 125th CFRC and the World long Range Target Rifle Championships, including the Palma Match. While F Class shooters are not eligible for the WLRTRC, they are of course most welcome in all the events of the CFRC. We hope you will join us.
