If yesterday was Jim Paton's day, then today was Pat Vamplew's. In the morning, Pat, of Whitby, Ontario, captained the Canadian Team in the Canada Match, leading them to a well earned success. And, in the afternoon, he won the Governor General's prize in difficult conditions. All day, especially from noon onwards, there was quite a strong breeze from the rear, changing direction between left to right in the twinkling of an eye. My own wind spreads in the middle of the day were of the order of 7 or 8 left to 3 or 4 right. It felt almost like Trentham! Under these conditions, the top shooters in the Governor Generals Final did extremely well. Results (HPS 300): 1. Pat Vamplew, Whitby, ON, 294.34; 2. Alain Marion, Gatineau, QC, 293.30; Linda Miller, Burnt River, ON, 292.28. Alongside the Final Canadian shooters were firing the Bisley Qualfier, to complete a number of closed aggreates. Geoff Woodman, New Harbour, NF, had the high score of 145.13. The Canadian TR Championship and Bisley Aggregate (HPS 980): 1. The Canada International Match, teams of 8 firers, 10 shots at 300, 500 and 600 yards: 1. Canada 1188.139; 2. USA 1182.137; 3. Scotland 1177.122; 4. Wales 1172.109; 5, Ireland 1164.104; 6, Germany 1136.75. The Under-25 international Short Range Match was won by Canada from Great Britain, scores not available. The Lansdowne was won by NCRRA, scores not available. In the morning, for those not in team matches, the S.J. Perry, 15 shots at 700, 800 and 900 metres, was fired: 1. Gerry Frazer, Powell River, BC, 225.22; 2. Linda Miller 221.22; 3. Mitchell Maxberry, Wellington, New Zealand, 220.25. F Calss: Marius de Champlain 263; 2. Wolfgang Scholze 258. The Connaught Aggregate: 1. Mitchell Maxberry 513; 2. Brian Slink, Baldwinville, NY, 508; 3. Shawn George, Waxahachie, TX, 507.34. F Class: 1=. Woflgang Scholze and Emil Pralick, both with 603. The Canadian Masters Award: Jim Paton. The Aggregate for the 21st Century - this is the aggregate of nearly everything: 1. Jim Paton 1407.144; 2. Alain Marion 1404.52; 3. Richard Jeens, Wales, 1401.49. F Class: 1. Jim Murphy 1664; 2. Dave Rumbold 1640; 3. Jim Bell, Scotland, 1606. And finally the result that the whole world has been waiting for - the annual cofffeee(sic-hic) match between Coliin Brown and Jim Thompson has ended in a tie: each won nine ranges and one was drawn. So the 123rd DCRA Prize Meeting is over. In a few days I may add some notes and reflections of the whoe thing. Generally things went pretty well, with good weather, except in the first two days, and challenging winds.
