This was a much better day! Somewhat overcast in the morning, sunny in the aftenoon, with no rain. The mosquitos were a continuing problem. One hopes that dryer, warmer weather over the next few days will reduce their numbers, if not their voracity. The wind today was variable, not quite "invisible, like vodka and bad breath", but a challenge, especially in the afternoon.I shot three times at 900 metres in the afternoon and had wind spreads of some 6 to 8 minutes each time. Others might quote better, or worse, conditions. Several events were continued or concluded today. The 223/556 Championship now has four of its six ranges completed. The TR leader is Steve Urban, Fort Worth, Texas, with 295.27, with Clint Dahlstrom, Victoria, BC, 293.25, Leo Cebula, Norhtville, Missouri, 292.30, and Stan Frost, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, 292.24, all in very close contention. Jim Thompson, Greater Whitevale Deep Water Port Authority, Ontario, leads the F Class with 338. Two ranges, at 600 yards and 900 metres, remain to be fired. The Long Range Challenge (LRC) was completed today. The LRC (Target Rifle - HPS 300.60) was won by Keith Cunningham, Burnt River, Ontario, with 292.19, from Raymond Gross,Midland, Michigan, 287.23, and Ken Westling, Vancouver, BC, 285.25. Jim Thompson was the first, and only, F Class shooter in the LRC-TR, with 301. In the LRC (Open - HPS 480), the winner was Terry Perkins, Kincardine, Ontario, with 455, from Norman Barber, Inglewood, Ontario, 448, and Emil Praslick, Brewster, New York, 447. Two 'warm-up' matches were fired today, the Gooderham and the Army & Navy Veterans. In the Gooderham, 15 shots at 500 yards and 10 at 900 metres, the winner is Jon Underwood, GBRT, with 125.17. Terry Glenn, Auburn, New York, 125.15, and Jack McKellar, Kars, Ontario, 125.13. There is a tie to be shot off in the F Class between Dave Rumbold, Ottawa, Ontario, and Leo D'Amour, Laval, Quebec, both with 146. In the Army and Navy Veterans, 15 shots at 900 metres, there is a tie for the TR prize, between Serge Bissonnette, Orleans, Ontario, and Des Vamplew, Toronto, Ontario, both with 74.6. Nigel Ball of the GBRT is third with 73.10. Top of the F Class was Bill Hammers, West Bloomfield, MI, with 86, from Wolfgang Scholze, BDMP Germany, and Dave Rumbold, 84. The forecast for tomorrow is reasonably fair. The last of the warm-ups will be fired in the morning, with the more serious business of the MacDonald Stewart Grand Aggregate commencing with the MacDougall in the afternoon. This evening we held the Meet and Greet Party and BBQ. There was a good turn out, in spite of the mosquitos and a certain lack of essential items, such as forks, plates and potatoes for those who had held back for visitors to go first! Some more wine was consumed as a result - hence any oddities in this report. Your scribe has had quite a good evening, but is less than happy with some of the things that were inflicted on him at 900 metres during three shoots in the afternoon!
